The POMPYE is here...

For those who are not familiar with the original PYE compressor form the late 1960s, here is some information combined with all the
new feature I have added in my new POMPYE design

The POMPYE has a separate INPUT and OUTPUT control now, unlike the original which had a single one with two gangs working
in opposite directions, the idea was that the output would always remain constant no matter what the threshold setting.

The POMPYE hasn’t got any added NOISE GATE circuitry.

POMPYE specification :

Frequency response :
30 Hz to 18kHz (-1dB points) pretty identical to the original, with a bit more top end, due to my hand-wound inductors.

NOISE :
-70dB under normal circonstance, due to better PCB layout, the external PSU, and better quality and quitter components.

ATTACK :
Goes from original (Fast) to13 x Slower in the Slow position.

THRESHOLD :
Threshold has been updated to +4dBm which is when the input control is set at 0dB, in its “midday” position.

OUTPUT LEVEL :
Output has been updated to be able to obtain 20 dB boost so that it can drive Digital interfaces that have been stupidly set
at -18 dB digital Scale = 0 Vu = +4dBm.

SIDE CHAIN FILTER :
The Side chain is equipped with a High Pass Filter set at 100 Hz thus allowing to not compress frequencies bellow that point
if you engage the “S-C” switch up.
This will allow your Mix to breath more in the low frequencies and remain untouched by the compression.

BYPASS : Each channel is equipped with two Balanced Hard BYPASS relays, see IN/OUT switch on each channels.

METERING :
I came up with this idea of being able to meter Input/Output and Gain reduction, but with a much larger scale than the limited
Vu we all know. Each meter is properly buffered with a high quality balanced differential amplifier, allowing to avoid the horrible
distortion that occurs when measuring levels with any meter.
You can happily leave your Meter selected on Input or Output without experimenting a difference in sound.
All meters are operated with relays, like the BYPASS.

External PSU :
It is simply and external conventional 20V AC Power transformer, nothing more.
All the Rectification and Regulation is taken care of inside the unit, with two separate regulator board for Left and Right thus
allowing the best possible crosstalk and noise performance.
